Did you know that Facebook was the first social network to surpass one billion registered accounts in 2012? It now has over 3 billion monthly active users.

1. As of Q1 2024, here’s how US Facebook demographics looked like this:

  • 25 and 34 year olds – 24.2% 
  • 18 to 24 year olds – 18.6 %
  • 55 to 64 year olds – 11.7% 

2. US women were more likely to use Facebook compared to men, with 53.9% of Facebook US users being women. Surprisingly, the global outlook is a little different with men aged 25 to 34 years making up 18.4% of global users.

3. Most people access Facebook through their phones, hence the need for mobile-first content.

4. As of Q1 2024, 30.1% of feed content in the US was from posts by friends while over 26.7% was unconnected to the user’s friends, groups or pages they follow.

5. Facebook posts with links still don’t get much love. As of Q4 2023, only 4.8% of posts viewed from news feed had links.

6. In 2023, Facebook had a decent 60% audience reach in the U.S, but it’s behind YouTube (74%) and Google (61%).

7. Audiences in the US spend an average of 3.8 hours per week on Facebook, compared to TikTok’s 9.5 hours per week.

8. As of 2023, Facebook posts from sports team pages receive the highest engagement rate, which is a meager 0.3%.

9. Influencers get the second highest engagement rate of Facebook at 0.16%.

10. Some U.S and U.K audiences use Facebook for news, with outlets like the dailymail.com getting over 19 million interactions from Facebook. This finding aligns with the 2024 Global Overview Report that found that 34% of people use social media for reading news stories.

11. As of 2023, 89% of social media marketers used Facebok to promote their business, closely followed by Instagram which was used by 80% of marketers.

12. Video posts generate the highest user engagement on Facebook with native videos leading over embedded videos.

13. Facebook was one of the least popular social media apps for Generation Z and Millennials in the United States. They prefer video platforms like TikTok, YouTube and Snapchat.

14. In 2023, the number of brand posts on Facebook was roughly 5 every week.

15. Sunday is the worst day to post on Facebook, while the best days are Mondays through Thursday between 9am and 12pm.

16. When it comes to AI-generated content, 62% of online users are hesitant to engage with content if they know it was generated with Artificial Intelligence. However, Millennials and Gen Zers are abit less hesitant compared to older generations.

17. It’s already known that most users are on Facebook to connect with friends and family. So it’s no surprise that 34% of consumers frown upon content that’s too focused on self-promotion. Marketers must strive to make their content entertaining.

18. Facebook delivers the best Return on Investment out of all social media apps.
